Five previously appeared in Williamson's Fireside Tales of the Traveller Children (Harmony, 1985; o.p.), but this new volume has bare-bones retellings that state the plot lines with scant attention to characterization or atmosphere. A brief introduction and short prefaces tell how the veteran storyteller came across the tales, and sometimes offer details about their sources and the people who passed them along to him. A glossary helps with the dialect, although the tales do not depend heavily upon it. Illustrations decorate the start of each story; they are dark, almost silhouettelike in appearance. The big advantage to this book is that it collects, in one volume, stories that would otherwise require researching many indexes to locate. Also, there is a current curiosity about seal people; recently such writers as Mordicai Gerstein ( The Seal Mother , Dial, 1986), Susan Cooper ( The Selkie Girl , McElderry, 1986), and Sylvia Peck ( Seal Child , Morrow, 1989) have used the motif. As an avid reader with a passion for shape-shifters of all kinds, this book suits my needs to perfection. These stories about the seal people were collected on site and are flavored with the smell and taste of the sea. Our curiosity about seals is stoked by their remarkable resemblance to ourselves in some ways--those melting brown eyes, their cries and more. In a time when folk lived close to the earth and sea, these legends helped them navigate unexplained mysteries. Today, when perhaps we know too much, they take us back to the possibilities of fantasy.

I think this is a really beautiful collection of authentic Scottish crofters' stories. Those not used to reading Scottish folk tales will probably find the stories repetitive at times, but the repetition is important - these themes were constants in the peoples' lives. It seems that Mr. Williamson did a good job of capturing the real stories and the real people who told them.

I am a tour guide, docent to the elephant seals at Ano Nuevo, California. I love to tell t he silkie seal stories. I know the people do not give a phoquelazation about me but I do believe they like to hear the stories of the hidden secret under the bed. Q: does anyone know more Silkie, Seal stories? Does anyone have a secret seal story?

From story one in this book I was hooked. This is my favorite book of Scottish Folk Tales of the Sealies. The writings are accurate to the versions of these stories that I have heard from other sources over the years. I recommend this book to a collector of Scottish Folk Tales definitely.

this book might be a little slow to some but it is mainly for the tails and the insight it gives to the scots.

Tales of the Selkies, half human, half seal people are woven in Scottish myth and lore - even in my own family. So I was delighted to find this wonderful collection of short tales about the Selkie collected by Duncan Williamson.Just wish the tales were presented in a bit more depth.Highly recommended to those wish pure Scottish Lore.

The book is about a paragraph of info and 10 recipes. Not many tips in the book. One tip that isn't but should be, melt your beeswax first. The first batch I dumped everything in together and afterwards realized that the beeswax didn't quite melt completely. You may want to get a double boiler from a second hand store so you don't have to worry about lotion residue on your food. I've tried two different recipes. The coconut oil lotion bar and the lavender lotion bar - however, I scented them both with coconut essential oil. The shea butter has a fairly strong scent on its own and is similar in consistency to coconut oil when solid. Cocoa butter is hard (like a soap bar) and came shaped similar to an over-sized stick of butter. I scored the measurement edges and "shaved" it with a large knife to get shavings to melt. I didn't use a lot of essential oil... maybe 15 drops per batch. The silicone molds need to be set on a wire rack or tray before you fill them or you cannot move them without spilling the contents. These tips would have been useful to include in the book, but for time and investment, I'm happy overall. You don't have to fill the molds to the top. I used the freezer method to set them. Took 45 minutes to an hour start to finish. Big hit at work - made a bunch to give as gifts. I bought the molds and most of the ingredients on Amazon.

First, the book was free to download - love that! Gave me some great ideas on ingredients to try. If you haven't tried making lotion bars, it's super easy and fast. Book recommends double boiler but I've used a mason jar with lid in pan of water then use a hot pad to pick it up and shake to mix. No mess!

Needs a brief description of what issues each bar will help. For Example: eczema, dry skin, moisturizing, aging skin. Etc.

Great little book with lots of recipes for lotion bars. I love the variety of recipes, and the attention to detail. The recipes are easy to follow, and laid out in an easy to understand manner. I would recommend "10 Easy Homemade Organic Lotion Bars" by Diann Bright.

Great little book. Easy to understand directions. Good for a Newby or seasoned DIYER. Lotion bars are a great product, good as gifts. Compact non messy way to hydrate your hands and skin.

Very easy on the eye to read & simple to use, recipes very good , tried a couple, for ingredients I'm not able to get some ingredients, I substitute.

making these for Christmas gifts this year easy peazy recipes

A great author, good series, but not with this book. We all know how the family is and really, did we have to hear about the warning from everyone to stay away from him. Usually there are a few laughs in her book, can't say that with this one.Predictable, too easy of a read that I started skipping places. Did not keep my interest.Elle says she booked the week for them to have fun. No she didn't, it was to push him into going and facing the people he didn't want to. Really, she can cry over something he says he don't want to go to and she has set it all up, then can't believe he walks out! Elle says they should talk about everything, yet she goes behind his back.Best parts of book was Max and baby with the troubles they may have (can't wait for their book) and Charlie's story.You could skip this book and still keep up with the series.

5 STARS!!!!!Wow just wow. This is the book I have been waiting on for a while now and it didn't disappoint. I was sad for a while in the book but it turned out ok for most of them anyway.In this book it does like the rest of them have been doing, it shows most of the characters we have been reading about so far and adding some new that will hopefully be in a book of their own soon.Ella has been in love with Gavin from almost the start. But, with the death of his brother he was embedded in grief and was untouchable. Even though they have had some shared moments in the past and with him telling her that if he was not broken she would be the first person he would come to that had Ella hanging onto hope that one day things might change and she would get to have him.After the last blow up they had in a previous book she had decided that it was not ever going to happen so she was letting go. Little did she know that it was not in her heart to let go.She received a phone call from a bar telling her that she was this persons In Case of Emergency or (ICE) as they put it. She ran to the bar not really knowing who it was but had a thought in mind that it was Gavin. He was not to happy to see her but she finally got him to let her take him home.For a long as Gavin could remember he has had feelings for Ella. He had even told his brother that one time when he was dating Hannah, but his brother told him to leave her alone. Gavin thinks that Caleb thought at the time that if something bad happened to him and Ella it would reflect on him and Hannah. So, he let it be, but still kept the flame alive in him even though he was dying inside from the grief.She had showed him over and over what kind of person she was by coming to his rescue over and over and he wanted her to know. He talked her into staying with him that night. He told her how he felt and she could not believe it.The next day she told him she had to go to her parents for their weekly dinner and he asked her what time that was and she told him three. He told her that her dad asked him to come over at three to look at some wood he wanted cut down. She knew right away that her dad and grandpa were up to their match-making and told Gavin about it. He told her that they could beat them to the punch and she said how. He told her to ask him to dinner.That is how everything got started. They enjoyed spending time together and everyone including Gavin could see the difference in him. He was smiling and laughing. He was feeling lighter too. And he owed it all to Emma.Her family was trying to warn her to guard her heart a little because he had a lot of demons that he needed to fight before all would be well, but as much as she tried to do that she couldn't help but fall for him. And fall Hard.He came to an event Ella and her family was throwing for work and while they were dancing he saw the guy that he had gotten in a fight with that summer that had led to him getting arrested. (To his credit the guy deserved it.) But, instead of waiting to find out what Ella and her family would say or do he left. That hurt Ella pretty good.On his way home someone or something you could say stopped him and made him wait until it clicked in his head that he shouldn't have left like that. Even though that was not the true reason, she let it go but in the back of her mind she was trying to figure out what she needed to do.The day before Thanksgiving Ella received a call from her mom telling her that Chloe was in labor and they were headed there and taking Thanksgiving dinner stuff with them, that they would do dinner at the lake house. Ella told her mom that she would be there later that day.She didn't really want to go because that would be her and Gavin would have to be apart for more than a day. Neither of them were looking forward to that. They knew they were going to miss each other but promised to call and Ella had a surprise for Gavin that she wanted to give him Thanksgiving night.She went to see her brother Max and meet her new nephew who was adorable. Chloe was not very receptive. I think she either has postpartum depression or she is just not interested in Max or the baby and the only reason she carried the baby was for Max. Maybe one day well will find out and honestly I know this is wrong to say but I kind of hope Max takes the baby to raise and meets someone new in a book of his own.After they have Thanksgiving dinner Ella leaves to go and meet Gavin she has missed him enough. She meets him at his parents house and they spend a little time there. He is so ready to get her alone but she makes him wait for a little while.Once they get to her house he doesn't waste anytime. He strips them and takes her to her room. They make love and then she goes and gives him his surprise. He does not take kindly to it. He loses it and starts to walk out. Ella tells him if he walks out not to come back because he would not be welcome.It's a sad moment in the book and it broke my heart to read and to have to go with them on a journey to heartbreak. His dad tries to talk to him but he doesn't want to hear it and especially when his dad told him that he thought he knew grief when his brother died he doesn't know what it is until he loses the love of his life.That is where I am going to stop writing and have you wonder what happened. I want you to read it and get into the book as much as I did.What will happen to Gavin and Emma?Will they get things worked out?Those are things you will have to read to find out for yourself.Next up is Charlotte (Charley) and Tyler in (Ain't She Sweet). While I adore the Abbott family and how they stand together...it pains me that while living in a small town with their parents and grandparents as pillars of the community, to be looked up to and revered; every single child seems to live down to their own baser wants and needs. Lets get drunk, have sex, move in together, then think about being in love. The ideas of having a child and possibly getting married are interchangeable as to which may come first in some cases. There are many times when the Lord's name is used in vain and while I am certainly not a prude, after the eighth child or so, it seems like someone would say, "you know, you bring a lot of money to the area, but shouldn't you be talking to your kids about that whole getting married or engaged before you have sex on your first date and move in?" Especially since they seem to be so beloved by everyone? Just saying....again, I love the writing most of the time, however, I do get a little tired of all the clothes ripping, it is redundant after so many kids do the same thing....just in the different books.

Ella is determined that if this time doesn’t work, she will move on, ‘if she can’. There is of courseAs Ella and Gavin begin their journey, we get to catch up with all the others in Green Mountain, both Abbott’s and Guthrie’s, Ms. Abernathy (Ella’s nosy neighbor) and perhaps there may be a new Abbott baby born.I really enjoyed this story a lot, but, my favorite couple is still Will and Cameron (book1). We all have our favorite even though we would never give up any of the other installments we have read.This is a great love story of how maybe two people can find their way. Oh, did I mention the HOT HOT passionate SEX? Don’t miss this one.

This book was used in the new colonies to teach young children. It was used to teach reading but has the foundational principles of the Gospel! I encourage everyone to read what children were being taught in school in the 1700's and even 1800's. This will make you really question our concept of separation of church and state that is taught in schools these days.

The New-England Primer was the foundational reader / primer for all or most of the Founders of our Nation. As I held this book in my hands for the first time and skimmed through it, I was amazed!!! I whole heartedly agree with many of the people who have also written a review, that stated that for any family that considers Christ to be the center of their home, this book is a MUST HAVE!!! To save you some money, a person can by the same New-England Primer in the blue hard back cover for much less than the maroon one on this page. I recommend to buy two at a time and pass one on to a friend, then tell the friend to do the same, in order to get the truth of our nation's Biblical history and knowledge out to the citizens as quickly as possible. I bought this for my Grandchildren. If schools are going to take God out then we will keep them learning God at Home.

Totally NOT what I expected ... it was BETTER! I was re-schooled by the reading of this tiny treasure! However, this book may prove to be difficult and challenging for the faint-hearted in more ways than one. At first I thought 'Oh, how cute! Conveniently pocket-sized!' ... then 'Uh, oh, the typography is hard to read ... ' to 'Wow! Major Education!' There are foundational principles and moral values PACKED in this tiny volume. I jealously guard this replica and I have ordered more updated, modern versions to share with as gifts.

All Christian families should have this little book, even though it is written in old English. Our children love it. It also reminds us of a time when few actually had schools to attend and were therefore self educated. It reminds us that life was not always easy as it is today and death was very present.

If you want to get a realization of where our education system once was and compare to where it is now, buy this book and see how for we have dropped!

I did not realize that it would be so small. The kids liked the idea of taking it out of our library when I introduced the book. It was just hard for them to read because of the small print. I did have to explain the differences in the letter formation (especially the 's')

This is a fantastic book - It should be left as the first grade reader like it was originally intended
