This book did a good job of presenting the different generations and explaining how the times in which the grew up and lived influence their attitudes. He gives good strategies to help the various generations understand each other better, and communicate to solve problems. The whole book is about working with other generations in a business environment. I read it to understand different generations in a ministry environment. I did find some helpful things, though the book was not specifically written to address ministry relationships. Many issues come together when you work together in ministry: personality, culture, background, and generations. This book helped me understand the generation aspect.
This book is AMAZING. Every working professional should read this book. And then read it again. Really though, there's something for everyone to take away from this. Not only is it educational, it also made me laugh from time to time. I'm not sure that was always the intent - but sometimes he really hit the nail on the head with my generation so blatantly that it made me laugh out loud and cheer.
Heydn flexed his intellect with this book. His razor sharp understanding of the differences in generations is profound. His motivation clarity is insightful. His descriptions spot on target. Describes very well how, for the first time ever, we have four distinct generations in the workplace and other institutions. Need to learn how to approach, understand, and communicate with them differently from when we came through the ranks. Very good treatment on the subject and good writing style for me, hammering the points in repeatedly in different ways. I like his style and this book. Helped in my business.
Purchased for daughter who is a teacher. She said it has wonderful information for anyone looking to understand people. We don't usually see people in consideration of their time of being born, their generation. Look at how an older person sees life in compared to the new generation. Now get them to work together.
Leadership books all tend to be pretty similar, This one is different. Should be mandatory reading everywhere that multi-generational groups need to interact.
Sticking Points brings humor, clarity and understanding concerning the four generations present in the workplace for the first time. Each generation has their own way of dressing, working, and relating to the other three. They are not wrong, learning to know them and how to work with them brings a new insight and challenge rather than the old way of acceptance or not.
I enjoyed how Shaw points out that this isn’t just an issue between boomers and millennials.! It’s between all generations. We do have more in common than we have in differences. Great book!
